Squeeks and rattles and jiggles and undiscoverable noises still abound. Same with Mazda's all-to-short-lived interiors. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone told me that their Mazda's dash was faded and cracking after a couple years... BUT, you're right from a design standpoint. They're choosing to differentiate themselves from that standpoint rather than Chevy's "hey you can spend another $5000 on a Jetta, but why when the Cruze is pretty damn good" plan.

Truth is, every successful car company is REALLY GOOD at something, usually just one thing... often at the expense of many other things. There's a race to the bottom because the bottom is where a lot of car buyers are pushing their money, unfortunately sometimes car companies cut the wrong corners and ugly shit gets noticed. How many recalls has the new Ford Escape had?

BrtStlnd

But that's GM's business model for Chevrolet and (partially) GMC.

But that's GM's business model for Chevrolet and (partially) GMC. Cheap, reliable, competent transportation. The GMCs usually get slightly better materials.

Unfortunately, I do agree that even if they make a decent small, RWD sports car they'll find some way to fuck up the marketing or give it ONE major flaw that kills it.

Unless I missed it, you didn't really mention the room inside. My main beef with the old IS was that it was a small car that felt even smaller when you got inside. The front seats made constant contact with the rears. Is this one tolerable for adults?

Entering a turn, your eyes should be fixed on the turn exit, not on where the car is pointed now... this is especially true in rally where inputs don't immediately change the direction of the car.

The other thing that struck a chord in your piece is the braking pressure. I was told to let off by raising my big toe instead of the whole foot.
